Heart rate variability, task load and perceived exertion associated with a long-distance military ski exercise: A pilot study

چکیده

Objectives: Skiing is practiced by the security forces posted at mountain areas for patrolling, securing borders, taking up rescue missions and sometimes as recreational activities. A study was planned to assess physiological mental stress of a military ski activity through measurement heart rate (HR) variability, task load perceived exertion. Materials Methods: Eleven healthy Indian soldiers, trained with skiing techniques, participated in 15 km 22 kg equipment predetermined snowy mountainous track. Pre- post-exercise HR variability (HRV) were recorded (bio-harness, Zephyr, USA) questionnaires, namely NASA index (NASA-TLX) Borg’s rating exertion (RPE) scale, filled after exercise. Time frequency domain parameters such HR, variations between successive RR intervals (RMSSD), standard deviation (SDNN) percentage value NN50 (pNN50), low- high-frequency bands (LF HF %) LF/HF ratio derived using Kubios software. Student’s t (paired) test applied compare pre- HRV Pearson’s correlation observe interdependencies subjective scores. Results: The findings depicted increase decrease overall (both significant). Besides this, there an LF (significant) (insignificant). Such response shows sympathetic dominance over parasympathetic autonomic nervous system. physical experienced during exercise also expressed high demand (79 out 100) (total score – 77 NASA-TLX moderately heavy RPE (14 20). Conclusion: differences variables ensured presence along Overall ratings. Carrying environment infested cold, wind chill, moderate hypoxia track possibly has induced observed participants. are important understand exact requirements warfare events carried forces.

Perceived exertion and heart rate models for estimating metabolic workload in elite British soldiers performing a backpack load-carriage task.

Identifying field measures to estimate backpack load-carriage work intensity in elite soldiers is of interest to the military. This study developed rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and heart rate models to define metabolic workload for a backpack load-carriage task valid for a population of elite soldiers using serial data. Male soldiers (n = 18) from the British Parachute or Special Air Serv...

a study on rate making and required reserves determination in reinsurance market: a simulation

reinsurance is widely recognized as an important instrument in the capital management of an insurance company as well as its risk management tool. this thesis is intended to determine premium rates for different types of reinsurance policies. also, given the fact that the reinsurance coverage of every company depends upon its reserves, so different types of reserves and the method of their calc...

Quantifying Wheelchair Basketball Match Load: A Comparison of Heart-Rate and Perceived-Exertion Methods.

PURPOSE To describe the objective and subjective match load (ML) of wheelchair basketball (WB) and determine the relationship between session heart-rate (HR) -based ML and rating-of-perceived-exertion (RPE) -based ML methods. METHODS HR-based measurements of ML included Edwards ML and Stagno training impulses (TRIMPMOD), while RPE-based ML measurements included respiratory (sRPEres) and muscu...

Exercise and Heart Rate Variability in Cancer Patients: A Systematic Review

Introduction: Heart rate variability (HRV) is negatively associated with mortality. Decrease in HRV is common in cancer patients. The association between HRV and general survival in cancer patients has made HRV a valuable biomarker for evaluation of the disease prognosis. Exercise is considered an interventional strategy to improve various outcomes in cancer patients. The present paper provides...

Are respiration movements and position of thorax associated with low heart rate variability? - a pilot study

The Global Body Examination (GBE) is an examination performed by physiotherapists to register deviations from ideal musculoskeletal conditions. When performed by a qualified tester the GBE has proved to have good psychometric properties, and the test separates significantly between groups of psychiatric patients and groups of healthy people. HRV is a measure of heart rate variability, and an in...
